Rewilding begins at Thornford Primary School

Last week I visited Thornford CE Primary School to survey the grounds and help them create a rewilding plan that will transform the school grounds into a haven for wildlife.

Plans are now underway to restore hedgerows, stop herbicide treatment at the base of hedges, restore hedgerow flora, establish grass margins, create a mini wet wildflower meadow, a pond and growing of wildflowers and long grasses in the orchard.

One special discovery was that Badgers are resident within the grounds with an entrance to their set by the playing field. With all the pressures that badgers face today due to the horrendous culling practice that is still being supported by the government, it was simply fantastic to discover them finding sanctuary within the grounds of a primary school. Something to be celebrated. Watch this space for rewilding updates and perhaps a badgercam in the coming days!
