On Tuesday 23rd March, Sturminster Newton High School joined the Conservation School Award. As of now hedgerows are going in to a conservation management regime to allow them to recover and support wildlife, herbicide treatment at the base of all hedges is stopping, wide grass margins are being allowed to grow around the entire sports fields and wildflower banks are being established.

Ideas are also being developed for the creation of a new wildflower meadow and the development of an orchard to help create a network of habitats and corridors for wildlife across the school grounds.

After Easter, the school will also be able to access our new ecology programme, aimed at drawing young people into a renewed relationship and appreciation for nature - exciting times ahead for humans and wildlife at Sturminster Newton High School… watch this space for updates!
