We are extremely excited to announce that we have now been given the go ahead to create a new wildflower meadow for Milborne Port Primary school on the site of the former football pitch in Wheathill Lane.

We aim to develop the meadow in a way that enables the children to be fully involved in the process, and experience all the benefits of being in nature and learning outdoors about the natural world.  The site will become an important haven and refuge for wildlife in Milborne Port, in particular for the insects and pollinators who depend on wildflower meadows for their lifecycle.

In the UK, we have in the last 50 years lost over 90% of wildflower meadows and insect populations are in rapid decline. In Europe as a whole we have lost 75% of invertebrates, and a staggering 450 million birds have disappeared from the countryside.

The natural process of meadow creation that OFH propose for the site will provide the children of Milborne Port Primary School with a living example of rewilding, and the restoration of nature, which they can be directly involved in throughout the different stages of the meadows development.
